Ok, here's my hardware:
2004 ford Ranger FX4 bone stock
147k miles
I have a rattle coming from the passenger front of my engine. The sound occurs at all engine RPM, and temperature and seems to increase synchronously with engine RPM. At idle, the easiest time to check it, the sound seems like valve tap. Once on the highway the sound isn't as noticeable due mostly to road noise. Here's the rub though, when the engine operates under a higher load, i.e. uphill with AC on in high temperatures, the engine sounds disturbingly like detonation. I ruled this out as an additional problem by getting multiple octane and brands of gas with no noticeable changes.
I've read on here about several piston slap and timing chain issues but none seem to occur at the location where my sound is emanating from. Please help me identify this problem so that I can get this fixed. Thanks in advance for any and all your help.
