Can anyone explain this to me?

I am interested in putting power windows and power locks in my truck. I don't know if I have a GEM module or not. I keep reading about it while searching, but haven't taken the time to look (behind the stereo?).

What is so special about this module? Can I not just get the parts I need (parts truck), such as the entire doors, and wire it to work? Does this module contain all the relays and such or ..... ? Is it like a CCRM or something?

I suspect that my limited electrical knowledge is hampering my ability to understand ..... or perhaps i'm lucky and this is my lack of a limitation.

I have a bead on a parts truck and want to get it, but I really don't want to go through all the effort if it'll be in vain.

Anyone? Help?

PATIA!

I have converted a newer truck but I am not sure if you have a gem. I believe the gem is nessecary for the auto down and delay relay(alows the windows to work after you remove the key but only until you open the door). The system is set up with relays to lower the current draw thru the switches so they will last. In theory you could use factory parts and a couple generic relays and wire it up without the gem.

I was hoping that the generic relay plan would work. If I get this parts truck I guess i'll find out. Gonna have to see what happens with that. Thanks!

i did mine with some relays, no gem module, all i did was getting the oem parts, the window regulators and swithces, and wired them to a relay, i got a new ford relay so it would be more reliable, almost 5 months now and not a single issue, only down side is that u dont get the auto down, and the operation with the key off thing, but u dont really gonna miss em much. i hooked em to the accesory line so when im listening to radio with the engine shut i can operate em with out turning the key to on position and then back to radio.

I'd be more than happy setting it up juuuuuust like that. I'm not so lazy that I need my windows to go all the way down by themselves. :D

ok then go for it!! totally worth it, but be sure the window regulators fit your doors, cuz mine came off of a 03 and didnt fit my 99:annoyed: so my mech had to take em apart, and take apart the manual ones to build a custom one from the 2, pretty pita but totally worth it!!
i got some round tweeters to cover the hole in my door panels from the window lever and looks so nice, with the oem ford switch panels
