Hey, you guys that carry all day, how often do you clean your guns? And more importantly, those who carry revolvers, how often do you clean them?
I just spent my first 2 days carrying, and that's something that came to mind...

Can't remember the last time I cleaned my XDsc. Been well over a year. If your gun isn't reliable without being cleaned constantly, it's not something you should rely on to carry anyways, IMHO.
Lol I have no idea if mine is or not... We don't get to take our guns home, and we can't just go to the range while on shift...
So far, because I'm new, I've been using a "part time gun" (haven't gotten a permanent one assigned yet) so anyone can use it, I figure screw it, the cleaning supplies are right next to the gun rack, and above the load/unload station, it takes 3 minutes to run a cleaner through the cylinder and down the bore... If anything else gums up, it will show up right quick on the function test

You are not cleaning anything to do with the mechanism anyway.
A good revolver will run a long time without being fully taken apart and cleaned. I just fully tore mine apart over the winter for the first time in 5 years because I was bored and wanted to see how it worked... and it runs on blackpowder. Really it wasn't that bad in there either.

It depends on how dirty the rounds are really. I tend to clean mine after I shoot it. I am a little OCD about my everyday carry. Mine sees a lot of dirt on a daily basis.
That is a XD holster modified to hold my FNX. It fits better than the firearm it is supposed to hold.

Ahh gotcha! Yeah we are not allowed to disassemble our service revolvers for any reason, if something becomes loose (side screw, extractor rod, yoke, or the rivet that holds the firing pin onto the hammer) we have to send it out to the gunsmith... It's a liability thing, the only thing we are allowed to change is the grip
I'm hoping when we switch to the mp 40, we will be allowed to switch sites, I would like a set of night sites, as 70% of our work is at night... Our revolvers don't have removable sites, so obviously, we can't change that...

I am going to put TFO Truglo fiber optic on mine. They light up like the 4th of July during the day and are night sights as well.

Cheap remedy for sites is nail polish. You can find "glow in the dark" flourescent nail polish at the store and just dab it on your fixed sites. Sure, it is not perfect, but it helps a lot and easily removable.
Love to use it on shotgun beads. I've even gotten comments on it while out shooting sporting clays.
