Since last thread got so outta hand Let me start fresh. As I said in my last post or two of my last thread, my trip got canceled so I just started over in my search and it lead my back to the same brand from the same place.

Please keep in mind I don't want a Mac or a 17" screen, and want to give Vista a try. If vista get's to annoying I've read that ASUS has good support for the downgrade.

This is the laptop:

It is an ASUS G1S-B2, I'll post specs below the image.

How much was your truck?

Standard price $1999.99, drops $400 bucks due to instore and mail in rebates leaving it at $1599.99.

blue book fer it is like 2k...

Already has more feature and power than my Mother's Sony Laptop. And more memory than my Custum Gateway FX510XL.

Its setup for Vista for sure. My mother's laptop came with Vista Home Prem. Only downside, it has only 1GB of RAM. I highly recommend 2GB or more. With 1GB, its just slow to load programs.

And to tell the truth, I would a like jealous since that is a good deal. My Custon FX510 costed me $3,200, but thats also with all the extras (Sound System, Keyboard, Mouse). Most I've done to it is upgrade the cooling system and expand the TV tuner for DTV.

I know you said no Mac... but dang... for almost $2000 a windows machine just aint worth it.

In my opinion that is, I've had nothing but amazing things come from OSX.
=)

i just got a tough book, for something durable and damn near bullet proof. a toughbook cant be beat really. i bought a used military surplus cf-28. its definitly a power house of a machine. altho i doubt it would be good to load crazy programs on.

Thats a good price. Are those the specs it comes with or is that what its capable of?

I respect your opinion but as I said mac isn't on my list anywhere (or at least any time soon). Just out of curiosity to see what a comparable mac would cost, I did a quick search at the same place I'm getting the ASUS. The closest I could get was dang close to 1K more, and still didn't meet the specs. That one had a matching processor and graphics card, but a smaller and slower HDD, less memory, and lower screen resolution. Biggest issue is as I said I don't want a Mac.

Yes those are the specs it comes with.

I would get that then if its only $1,599. See if you can downgrade to xp tho. IMO its a lot better operating system then vista. XP even benchmarks better then vista lol. But ya jump on that laptop, its a great price. I payed 1800 a year ago for mine and its got ati x1800, core 2 duo 2.0ghz. Came with a gig of memory, 80g harddrive, media center. Thats a really good price for that one your looking at.

From what I've read ASUS has good support for the downgrade. I want to at least try Vista before rolling it back though.
