I am going down this weekend to look at, most likely buy it, a 302 from an 89 Bronco(with all the wiring and computer), and a 5 speed tranny from a 90 F150. My question is will the computer work with the 5 speed? because the motor was originally bolted to an automatic. Just thought Id check before I fork over the $$$.

thanks,
matt

Yep. It will work, the key is in the wiring. We had the same situation with my pickup since I wanted the manual as well.

sweet, thanks. You truck looks pretty sweet, how long did it take you to do the wiring on that??

have fun with that 89 wiring, unless its like the 86 style it won't work, if the 89 harness is like the 91, the engine harness is integrated into the truck harness, the 86-87 i believe are the only 2 years it isnt, may be wrong though.(been looking it over, may be easy to adapt 2.9 harness 2 it, if you keep it bank fire)

intake will fit with body lift
(serpintine setup)got about 1 inch or 2 between PS pump and PS box, Manual tranny, so shouldnt have to tuck radiator, will be close though, got to run a fan in front of radiator.

a/c good luck:icon_rofl: condensor wants to share same place as inake.

need to swap rear sump oil pan to dual sump pan unless 2wd ttb ranger

i know this from experience, f150/bronco FI, poor donor, but usable

Thanks :) all said and done we probably had a good 40-50 hours of solid wiring into it. My dad did most of the wiring - I won't try and take credit for his work! He owns a shop back in my hometown, and he pulled up numerous schematics on his laptop and sat and wired everything together over a couple weeks' time.

My pickup is alot different than your setup though. We had to deal with things like bypassing the OBD-II Evap cycle, the shift-on-the-fly auto transfer case, automatic (which I realize you asked about in the first place).

alaskan, so correct me if im wrong, but your saying that the setup that im lookin at wouldnt work in a 4x4 93-97 4.0L manual ranger???:icon_confused: the guy as already pulled out the harness and computer and has pics of it, if that helps...

like i said, on my 91 f150 donor, the harness to the engine disconnected at the fender wheel, and the rest of the computers harness was integrated into the f150 harness(Same as bronco), which i belive they did when when the changed the front clip to this:

tried to remove the engine harness and had like 20+ wiring going to other places of the truck., if the 89 harness goes directly from the engine to the ECU, like the mustang let me know, because i only though the 86-87 did that and that would be a better candadit. been thinking about checking out the 95-96 MAF harness, but haven't got around to that.

the engine itself will work, just got to get a mustang dual sump pan and pickup. the DS f150 exhaust manifold fits, but is real close to the steering shaft, PS will require notching the frame.

nice thing about the 89 is the alternator is plug and play(atleast for my B2)

i say this if the harness he is giving you goes from the engine and you you can connect it directly to the computer, get it , slap a 2inch body lift(to clear intake).

the biggest problem i see is if you want to run A/C, didnt seem to be enough room for the condenser)

ahh gotcha, i see what your saying. Just never really thought about that  I guess when i go down this weekend to look at it ill will have to ask him about the wiring stuff. i dont think im going to run the AC, so i wont have to worry about that. Thanks for all the input!
