I think when someone replaced my motor they replaced it with a cali and not a fed. I would think that as long as I had my original computer and wiring harness it should work. The reason I think it could have been a california is because it looks like it has a camshaft position sensor on the back of the manifold. Do I have to get a new harness and computer. My truck dosn't run that great.

Non-California 4.0L's have a camshaft position sensor also back by the firewall also.

are you refering to a cap looking item with one screw holding it down?

there is a small cap looking thing (best i can describe i guess) that is actually the gear pick up for driving the oil pump. or are you looking at something with an actual wiring harness attached? AFIK there arent camshaft sensors on 94 model 4.0's. there is a crank pick up at the front, throttle position, and a number of others...but the crank pick up does a bulk of the ignition timing.

Ive got a '94 non-Cali Expoder with a cam sensor.......(it's a Canadian truck)

It also has an egr valve.

do the common chiltons and haynes books show something in their diagrams? i knew some motors came with the EGR's, but never knew about cam sensors being on some, thanks!

Rangers and Explorers with Cali-emmissions got the cam sensor (And EGR)
as early as '93.

I usually identify a 1994 EXPLORER by the presence of the cam sensor
and much more visible PFE sensor for the EGR sensor.

49-state 1994 Rangers can go either way.
and I have seen many of both.

There is a date in early 1994 (april?) past which they ALL had the
cam sensor and EGR

I saw one (without) today in a 1994 (BigClemsonFan saw it too) at the U-pull-it where
we got a 1991 4.0 engine for his (Nephew?'s, sorry Brian, I said I was terrible with names) 1989 Ranger to replace a dead 2.9.
