Computer question?

hopefully you guys can help, The Icons on my desktop have a blue outline around the words almost like there highlighted, it was never like that for about 2 years till Sometime last year it stared doing it when my comp got infected with some spywere or something bad, to the point where it was unusable with crazy pop ups and it being real slow. ended up taking it to Circut city they got it kinda fixed, everything works but its just not the same. But dose anyone know why its blue around the letters? and know how to fix it? For some reason its really annoying for me to look at it like that.

to change it go to control panel, change backround color. its so you can read the letters

right click on desktop, click properties. then under the "desktop" tab, click the drop down box that says "color"...select color.

looks like it was reverted to the default setting at some point during the fiasco.

if the computer still isnt running like it should, i strongly suggest reformatting it. there are so many different viruses and worms out there that once infected, its almost impossible to get them all off again without a reformat. even once you think your ok, there can still be bugs lurking on there, waiting to crash your system in the future, or else send personal info to a waiting computer. its better to reformat on your terms then a virus'.

Thanks for the help, is there a way to set it with no color behind it, to where it just shows the picture?

This is the is the computer in my Dads office, Ive tried telling him he should accutaly get it fixed but he dosnt seem to care, so if something happens its his problem. The only reason Im worried about the background thing is ive been using this one more and it just really annoys me looking at it like that.

try changing the windows "style" from what ever its set at?

I don't believe you can change the background on the icon's to the desktop picture. what you can do is change it to black and put all your icons in the darker part of the picture.

I personally do not like very many icons on my desktop. I try to keep about 5 or 6 max. If you limit your icons to just a row, you can put a color stripe on the sides of your desktop (use photoshop or similar) and set the background to the same color as your stripe.

Well if thats the case I geuss i'll just have to live with it, like I said I only use that computer once in awhile so oh well

Right click My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Settings(Performance)
Make sure "Use drop down shadows for icons"Box is ticked. CLick apply>Ok.

Use the following to smooth edges of screen fonts:
--->Clear type

I just checked 2 of the three XP computers that I have running, and both of them are like how you want them. the settings are similar to the above few posts by BlackBII

I have a picture on one machine that is centered in a black background. I played with it a bit, changed the background color etc, and the settings on the icons stayed the same. so I am at loss as to what is up. hopefully those settings mentioned above will fix it.

Have you tried another desktop picture?
