What are the magic digits I need to match to replace my computer? Mine reads;

EEC-V ML2-712 8J04 MLC0

F87F - 12A650 - CAA G

68MT712A29 - AB 53362-167

The first one is cheap, but the second is a much closer match even though neither are the same year (though from what I've read, that doesn't matter).

Thanks

I think the number right after EECV (ML2-712) is the hardware code. The F87 number is the part #, and the number right after that is the catch code or calibration number. Make sure you get one for the same engine and trans within a year or two and you probably will be ok. I have a ecu from a 92 mustang in my 94 ranger and none of the numbers match but it works ok.

-Edit- Ninja'd ^

I've looked around a bit more and it looks like I need to match

F87F - 12A650 - CAA

I haven't found any that match that, but I have found an update

XL5F - 12A650 - BHB
(2 on eBay now)

Which has an update

XL5F - 12A650 - BHC

Can I use one of the updated computers? Or is this something that I would better talking off talking to somebody at the dealership about?

since you're in California, you probably need to make sure the computer came from a CA vehicle. is there a way to determine that from any of that nonsense code?

It's not a CA truck, I purchased it in WA.
