compression test

what should be the compression readings on a 2.9L. also could a bad or sticking lifter be the cause of my engine cutting out while driving.
did the compression test and here's what i got

#1- 70psi
#2- 90psi
#3- 80psi
#4- 95psi
#5- 65psi
#6- 70psi

A quick and easy start would be to change the fuel filter. It could possibly be the injectors.
I have no idea what the compression should be.

Those numbers look low to me. The rule of thumb I use is minimum 100 PSI and no more than 10% drop from the high to the low. You meet neither of those.

Ditto....Did you try putting a bit of oil in the cyl to see if it bumped up the compression any?

most of the good running 2.9ls i have tested have been in the 120 to 140 psi range

compression numbers

Well, i figured those numbers were low. I have a complete new fuel system as most of it was bad when i bought the truck last month. I have found what the current problem with my bogging down and cutting out is: Catalytic Converter...... So by taking care of that this weekend, and I can coax the truck for few hundred more miles, i will be happy. I am addressing the compression issues in spring, when I have the motor rebuilt. Thanks all for your input.
