Hello. Just recently got a 1993 Ford Ranger 3.0L 2WD that needs a lot of work. And I am almost a complete noob at car repair. But would love to learn. I've read several post that have helped a lot already. I've got my Haynes manual and hope I can get some of the gaps filled in Barney Style. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to TRS~!

Nothing like a major overhaul to learn the ropes...haha...I'm sure you will learn it all within 10 years or less...important to remember...most of the people on here with experience got that experience by making mistakes...

Are you driving this vehicle or is it too far gone for that currently and you are starting from scratch?

It is drivable. So far this is the list I've come up with.

-electrical nightmare: the previous owner had done his own wiring and had many live wire leading no where. Several things spliced into hundreds of other things. And to top it off he had the wrong type of battery that he mangled the terminals to connect to. I've already traced all random wire and removed them. Removed extra gauges that didn't work anyway. Replaced the battery and terminals. And removed the stereo system.
-spedo and odometer don't work. Not sure if this is a gauge, electrical or spedo gear issue.
-back up light doesn't work. Again not sure if electrical or backup light switch problem.
-heater core was bad and disconnected. Hoses were bypassed (water pump plugged into thermostat) I just got a new heater core and hoses. I plan on installing those tomorrow.
-parking break doesn't work.
-front and rear tires are different sizes (14 inch rear and 16 inch front)
-power steering pump needs replaced (or so previous owner told me) it's missing the belt so I don't know if it actually works.

Experiance is the best teacher, Don't get discouraged this site can provide a lot of help use the search function most everything you are going to ask already has been asked. Good Luck!

If you are close to colorado I have a 94 parts truck you could pick a lot of stuff off.

What part of Colorado? I'm originally from Colorado Springs. But now I'm way over in West Virginia. Thanks for the offer.

Live in Greeley but spend a lot of time at high altitude. This barn find ranger of mine is awesome. Where in WV? My wife has a lot of family in Parkersburg, great country for crawling.

I'm in Hurricane half way between Huntington and Charleston. West Virginia is great country through and through. I used to make fishing trips down here when I was stationed in DC. And just feel in love with the place. But I have to admit I do miss real mountains.
