Colonial Gunsmith

Awesome. My sons and I have a forge and we make stuff--and that gives me an appreciation of how hard it would be to make a barrel. Impossible for us. Holy crap!

Better kill a lot of British soldiers per rifle.

I think all those extra steps of rifling help in that regard.

I stumbled on this looking for ideas on a gunsmithing workbench for my gun room.

I would love to put together a kentucky rifle kit which is fairly daunting on its own (treating the barrel, fitting the wood, sanding/staining the wood etc) but down to making your own screws... dang. :shok:

Bad thing about the kits is they are like $20 cheaper than a completed rifle... and a completed rifle (like a Traditions, nothing really elaborate) is like $3-400 now.

I wonder if anyone still does this? Given their dress I wonder if it is like a living history exhibit type thing.

Wow, that's pretty impressive! I could probably learn the fabricating, but I don't think I'm artful enough for the carving

Sent from my kite using a trebuchet

That was impressive; but I can't imagine welding the barrel into a tube and then firing it.

I'll use modern cutting tools to drill out a solid rod, thank you very much.

That is why you test fire it with 4x the std powder load and light it off from a distance with a powder trail like Wille E Coyote would. :icon_twisted:

Blackpowder does run much lower pressures than smokeless does though.

Very cool. A true craftsman right there. Everything made to work with everything else. One reason things made that way, work better. Thanks for posting...
