Coleman Liquid Fuel

How do you refill them small bottles?
Harbor Freight has the adapter to do so, but I wouldn't trust the bottles for a refuel. I do believe there are some that are reusable but the cost more.

I think the safety factor is enough for me to just buy new... one overfill and you have the makings of a disaster

Since we are Coleman posting I figured I should share mine. Saved this one from scrap when I was working at the local recycling center.

Dang... That one doesn't appear to have even been fired up.

@JohnnyO I have some of the fat bottles if you needs some. I think they are 1# bottles.

Refill adapter, you can get it at many places that sell propane stuff... Walmart, Menards, HF, etc. Put the empty small bottle in the freezer for a few hours, screw the adapter into a 20lb bottle, flip it over, screw on the small one, open valve, close after a minute or two. Done, same process for any little bottle, including legal reusable ones. The freezer part is not necessary, but it allows you to get them closer to "full"... regardless, they never get "full" per se, maybe half or a little more at best, not the 80% full like they are new. Flame King makes a refill kit that allows you to get them filled to their safe fill level.

It is actually illegal to refill the little Coleman ones and can be unsafe.
The valves are not really meant for multiple uses.

That is correct, and the whole thing surrounding that is kinda interesting. My refill adapter has color instructions with it that show it in use with a green disposable bottle. Many of the adapters for sale on Amazon and elsewhere specifically advertise that they are for refilling disposable bottles. I am sure like everything, this is part facts and part politics.

I have a 5lb propane bottle that I will eventually start using for everything and transition away from the disposables entirely. I just haven't really figured out where it fits into my camping gear arrangement.

Thanks, I got the two tall ones anyway. Just not understanding why the stores don't have any.

There is a lot of weird shortages right now.

I found @JohnnyO's propane!

They had a full end cap too.

And they changed the packaging for #21 mantles too, cardboard backed and big so they probably won't fit in cases under founts now in their packaging... so that is nice.

I saw they changed the mantle packaging too. Bet that's why they went on clearance last year... new design... they can't just stop selling mantles. Our walmarts look the same, plenty of everything.

Side note regarding that 5 pounder I was talking about earlier. I found a home for it. My camp shower Packout box is always stuffed full of crap, including at least 3 little bottles.

I discovered that my 5 pounder fits right inside if I remove part of the lid. Problem solved. I will probably still carry one or two small green bottles but only as backups. This 5 pounder is the same amount I was carrying before and I can run the stove, camp shower, or skottle or I think all three at once with my propane distribution post. Propane and propane accessories! :headbang:

I've been trying to condense my camping stuff into my RIDGID tool storage boxes while I'm getting ready to move.

Packing to go camping should get easier if all you have to do is put a few boxes in the truck.

My CL-2 will sit upright inside the roller box without the case... I may build a custom divider to keep it safe. I don't much care for the Coleman case of death anyway.

On second thought let me get back to you on that. I don't know that the bottles I bought will work with the stand for my Coleman lantern.
