Coleman Liquid Fuel

When you want to make breakfast and find that the leather has dried out....

That works. I usually use 3-in-1 oil or air tool oil because they have a little squirt nozzle on the bottle. Probably better to use neatsfoot oil but I don't have any.

I have neetsfoot oil....

At home.

Wtf is a neet? Obviously it has feet but I never seen one...

So I found this at a thrift store yesterday...

I like older stuff usually but this thing was just too minty to pass up. I think it was used once and put back in the box. Other than the scorch mark on the generator, it could pass for new. Even has what I'm assuming is the can of fuel that was purchased with it, price tags, fuel filler nozzle, etc. Dated January 1985

How much was that at the thrift store? Great find!

CL2 is a good lantern, mine is probably my favorite one. It is not quite as minty as yours but it is probably one of the nicest in my stash, it is a great runner.

Mine is 2-85, it had the later metal eccentric block. The earlier ones (not sure when the cutoff was) had a plastic one that could melt. I added a later heat shield as a precaution which also keeps the globe from rattling around.. which makes me like it even more.

I had my 413 and 220J at the roundup, I had them both going and ready to roll the first night and I went in the camper to get supper... and they were already cooking in there. Second night we bummed off of @97RangerXLT's grille... so I never used any of it.

$15!!!!!!!!

I kinda like the CL-1 and CL-2 as well.... I have a 288 and a CL-1 already. I bet this one has the metal eccentric block since it's so close to yours. My 288 had the plastic one and it was melted into a nice blob, replaced it and it runs great. I put a heat shield on that one since I'll use it occasionally, this one I may not ever use.

I filled my CL-2 with the new super duper Coleman fuel I bought... it instantly started giving me some trouble. For one... I could hardly get it to lite. Once it was going... only one mantle was burning. I'm going to mess with it a bit soon... but I will say I'm not impressed with the fuel.

I also stopped at an antique shop on my way back home... guy had a really nice 6/90 Unleaded dual mantle lantern. He wanted $20 dollars... I offered $15 and he wouldn't take it. In hind site I should have just bought it. It was a black top silver bottom... with the original globe.

Ok to recap a bit when I picked up our Skamper from @Uncle Gump he threw in a battleworn 220K. Looked like it had fireballed.

The fount had seen better days too:

It had an outright leak on the side:

So after some thinking I decided that since I got it from a friend and I don't have anything in it I could kinda justify spending a little time and money fixing it. And since a K isn't a real desirable lantern it might not be a bad one to learn how to go more in depth on. If I screw it up isn't isn't like I screwed up a 100 year old classic.

So I strip it to see what I have to work with.

This is the second lantern I have had that seems to have had a fuel leak around the cleaner crank (and gone fireball)

Yummy!

Used my check valve tool to pull the check valve

Looks like the last guy didn't have the tool

Valve was free but I gave it a bath in the carb tank anyway

Ok, I think everything is good except for the fount, I can't do much there. I snagged a better looking vent for my 220J for like $4 online... what does a fount run.

$9.99 buy it now on Ebay, its like two months newer than the original one. Good enough for me.

Ok, the frame looks like crap, off to google I go. Folks seem to like evaporust so I snag a gallon of that and start soakin parts.

Throw it together, snug up the nut for the cleaner crank and throw some fuel at it:

And it works!

My stuff is ready to do battle tonight. Decided to camp a couple nights. Between Ceasars Head, SC and Dupont state forest in NC. First time camping for my dog. This is to see how she likes it.

That turned out pretty good...

The grey ones (vice green) use white gas, naptha, de-natured alcohol or unleaded gas......pretty convenient and unleaded gas is cheaper than the others.

Spotted this guy in the wild a couple weeks ago, the thing ran sweet...

Actually the green ones can too, the generators don't go as long as the regular dual fuel ones though. Duel fuel can run gas but they run better/longer on white gas before having generator problems. It still doesn't work as well as regular Coleman fuel though.

I would like to get a beater dual fuel lantern and a 414 stove for users on the road though. So if I did have an oops with fuel and everywhere was closed I could get some from a pump and keep on trucking.

My dual fuel is next on my list to get going... it is all cleaned up, I think it just needs fuel and mantles.
