Coleman Liquid Fuel

That Lowe's was close to my old pizzeria... shopped there many times fixing up and maintaining the place.

Nice find.

You guys do find some great stuff. Where I am in NJ, usually all people sell is rusted lanterns and the occasional stone for $50 or more. Sadly they are just not worth my time to try to fix someones mistakes / neglect.

I remember finding one of those little lantern shaped cologne bottles that my dad had from back in the day. I think I saved it somewhere, but I have not seen it in years. From what I recall, the residual in the bottle was quite "fragrant".

Yeah lanterns have gone nuts. Stoves not so much, I just passed on a nice $7.50 425E on a garage sale Friday. I have one of every size and they take up a ton of room...

I suspect the lantern was a decent price because it was a spur of the moment thing. He was wanting to sell his Avon bottles as a lot, posted them a month ago. I messaged asking if he would sell the Coleman one seperate. While there he asked if there was any other old stuff I might be interested in so I inquired about real Coleman stuff... "well I have this one..."

Wasn't a super awesome deal but better than the average $75 barn find full of dirt and spider webs currently on marketplace. Honestly I haven't even been looking much anymore.

Yeah around me you don't see much stuff like that at yard sales, its usually a lot of baby / kid stuff that has been outgrown, or housewares.

I mean, I don't mind paying up for something if I want it, or it is in new or nearly new condition with its box and manual. At that point, it is actually somewhat collectible, not just a run of the mill find. Some people see high prices on ebay and automatically assume their stuff is worth that much, even though it is in worse shape, and a different model / manufacturer.

There are several Coleman pieces on Craigslist here this week.

Problem is... I already have more stuff then I want to move as it is. I am however considering a heater that is near my old pizzeria. If I have to go that way... it might be hard to pass up.

I ran across this older gentleman today at my favorite thrift store for $2! It's a model 220C, and I think it's dated August 1946 (8 on one side, 6 on the other) which would make sense with the 1944 to 1947 production years that I found for that model. By far the oldest item in my collection.

It also has what I presume to be the original globe. I found the lantern stuffed into a box of other junk, it's really incredible that it didn't get broken... and needless to say I will have to be very careful when I clean it up. Will need a lot of the usual things to make it run but now it's got a forever home!

Dang, that thing is sharp.

I have never had any luck whatsoever at a thrift store to date on Coleman stuff.

Right place, right time........right thrift store. Only one of them ever has lanterns. Stoves show up often at all of them. I know for a fact that some thrift stores won't even mess with either, they just go straight in the trash.

I also passed up a nice Coleman oven yesterday, it was marked $30, figured I can do better if I'm patient... or I could clean up that rusty one I've been kicking around.

If you find a nice oven cheap let me know...

I would have to imagine the globe alone would bring $25 anyway...

Easy.

Gawd. Now I feel like I need to wear white cotton gloves to touch the thing!

The ol 426 cooked up some good steak sandwiches at the lake tonight.

My wife picked this up at a rummage sale yesterday for single digits.

It is new in the box. I’ve opened it to make sure everything was there and intend to use the heck out of it. Cooking on liquid fuel stoves brings back lots of camping memories from my youth. Mostly memories of pumping the stove, that always seemed to be my job. I’m glad I can pass the opportunity to build that resentment on to my kid now.

We used them extensively in the scouts until one boy filled a super soaker with white gas. Then they switched everything to propane. We still used white gas on the long canoe trips though. I think the liquid fuel goes a lot farther per unit of canoe space than propane. Honestly, I’m kind of excited to try this out. We are going to try to do more tent camping this summer.
