My daughter hasn't had power since Sunday night. I'm pretty sure there's at least 6-inches of snow where I live here in north Texas.
Texas is trying to make sure you're not homesick for Ohio.

Yep, I got those too. But they are heavier than the first pair I showed so I dont wear them unless I'm going onto the roof. They are definitely good grips in snow and ice. I had a pair of rubber caulk boots with spikes but lost them several year ago. Originally bought them for working on cedar shingle or shake roofs that were covered in moss. They work great unless a shingle let's loose. But that's never happened to me so far.
Knock on wood....

It got up to -10*C here, so I took advantage of the nice weather and changed the rear springs on the wife's Explorer Sport. She shoveled the light snow we were getting so the creeper didn't have issues rolling on drive. Wore my jean jacket and coveralls and was sweating like a horse - but then I come from Norse stock...

Or should that have went under what did you do to your RBV today?

She still doesn't think it is where it should be and I'm going to have to twist the driver's torsion bar so it sits more level side to side but the @$$ of the SUV isn't dragging as back.

Winter tires on both the Expo and daughter's B4000 are working way better today than when it was -35*C last week; could almost keep up with the SuperDuty's.

very cold this morning, not sure how cold, I didnt want to look. Put a heat lamp on the allis about 2 am and at 3 fired it up to plow out the drive. It did great but even with gloves my hands were very cold , didnt get frostbite but had to be close. The ranger didnt want to start but did. Ended up taking the escape anyways since she decided not to go to work. Tomorrow will be in the negative numbers. More snow on the way too. was going to clear a spot in the backyard for the dog but was almost too deep for the tractor, let alone dropping a blade. Tricycle front ends dont work well in the snow. May need a allis-B or a 600 series ford as a plowing tractor. Glad the belly mower wasnt on.

Tricycles make a great anchor if you get in sustained deep snow that is for sure. Also fun when they plug up with mud...

Chains would help you too, if your brakes are good just keep the front pointed in the direction you want to go and steer with the brakes.

They did make wide fronts for C's too.

We have 7 whole degrees! I almost don't need a coat anymore!

My mom called a while ago and asked if I want to postpone her oil change to a warmer time. I said "We already did. I said it would be later this afternoon. It's supposed to get up into the 40's today." She asked "Wouldn't you rather wait for a warmer day?" Me, "No, mom. Its already above freezing. We're actually in the warm part of the country. Besides, I'm already outside working on the Ranger. Postponing your oil change won't keep me inside the house." She finally gave up.

Yesterday was 6 above. I was going to wait until this weekend to do a cruise control upgrade on one of my other trucks, but had time and decided to give it a shot. It’s kind of depressing how comfy that 6 degrees felt while working on the truck. We also went skating on the rink I built in our backyard and were never remotely cold, in light sweatshirts and sweatpants. Next Monday we may see 40s and it’s going to be incredible. Up here 40s in Feb/Mar means shorts and sandals. 40s in Sept/Oct means long Johns and parkas. It’s amazing how quickly we adapt and un-adapt.

Come on man! Spare some of them degrees! Just gimmie two degrees and I'll make you feel good!

Texas is a disaster. They got hit with a winter storm in 1989 and 2011 and were told to winterize the grid to keep this from happening. They didn't. Now a lot of Texas doesn't have power.

It's Wednesday and people have been without power since Sunday. I really don't know how some of those people are staying warm.

Yesterday I drove down to get my daughter just north of Dallas and bring her here since I have power. Gas stations were closed, and those that were open didn't have gas. I managed to find some at a Loves Travel Center along my way with 40 miles showing till empty. I was able to top off the tank this morning here in the small country town that I live in, but they only had premium. I went back with my 5-gallon gas can and filled it as well.

All this Texas talk is bringing me back to the ice storm of '98. Everywhere in maine was coated with 3" of ice, out of school for a week because of no power, took close to 3 weeks for power to get restored to our house. Gas stations everywhere had to ration gas so people could run their generators.. upside of the whole ordeal was people with woodstoves had plenty of fuel afterwards.. and didn't have to do as much yearly tree trimming lol.

Were more or less accustomed to living in shitty winter conditions though, I can't imagine the absolute mess Texas must be in.

Halloween of '91, we lost power for like two weeks due to a big ice storm. My aunt/uncle and cousins came to stay with is because out in the country they didn't have running water without power to run the well.

Kerosene heaters were literally a lifesaver... but back then people were more used to not having power too. Now you can't hardly find kerosene on a good day...

Last week we had diesel tractors dropping like flies gelling up, it is a 60mi round trip to get kerosene.
