It got cold finally today. Heading out to the highway, I noticed it slipping pretty bad. Managed to stay off the gas enough that it didn't slip all the way to work and home again. On my way home, I noticed the slipping quit. So the next time it happened, I felt the pedal was a little bit stiffer than usual. I pumped it a few times till it felt good, and the slipping quit.

Is this the disc sticking in the input shaft splines? Or is this a hydraulic problem?

got it figured out, at least the main reason for failure. Took a peek through the slave cyl inspection hole, the slave is dry (not leaking that i can see) but using a mirror I could see the bellhousing was coated in oil and there was a small puddle forming at the bottom of it. oil contamination causing the slipping. maybe pumping the pedal causes enough slip that it heats up and cooks the oil enough to grab again.
