Ive got a '87 2.9L and I was wondering what brand cold air intake I should get.

A pair of them fuzzy dice hanging from your mirror will get you some pleasure... why not go for a pair of them? They'll look good on that ride and everyone can see you spent some money.

Lols...

Will someone just get to the point already?

what blackbII and original_ranger are saying is that the stock intake is alreadya cold air intake, in fact moreso an aftermarket kit will draw more hot air in than the stock intake, if you want flow get a gauze stock replacement filter. you don't need all of that polished aluminum tubing

the air box has a vent that draws air from the front of your ranger to the air box, it also has a hose from your exhaust to your airbox plug the hole and get a cap or somethin on the exhaust, there is a guide somewhere i read about removing the vaccum lines off the air box check that out also.

Hey guys this is gonna sound stupid. Mine has a ribbed hose that is coming from the back of my air box but it is just hanging down and it is not attached to anything is this normal or should it be attached and if so where?

No its not normal, it is supposed to got to a shroud on the passenger side exhaust manifold so that on cold mornings it will draw air that is pre heated. When the ambient air temp reaches a certain level then it switches to air that is cooler from the front of the truck. I changed my exhaust manifold and never put the shroud back mine so its just tied up sitting there.

X2 with the Ice, stay with the stocker unless there are alterior motives, ie.. sucking water/mud in through the behind the headlight airdraw.

Hmmm....interesting about the warm air hose. I don't know why but my 87 2.9 airbox has 2 vaccum lines to the back part of the base but no hose to anything. The black "hose" I have is just to drain water,it's to small to draw any warm air. My truck came from PA and the airbox is different than all the ones I saw at the junkyard. My airbox lid was broken so I got a cone type filter and clamped on the outside of the inlet tube.
