So just wanted a word of advice from someone with a cold air intake system. Is this worth $250? And how well does it affect sound?

i would not pay $250 for cai and sound is all your gonna get, just buy a drop in k&n for $50.

This is the bolt-on, boxless filter extention deal, no?

It looks Nice. and thats my opinion. it looks nice.

But since your truck normaly sucks air with the original box from outside air.

and that one sucks from inside air. when it gets warmer out. its going to be sucking Hot air. not cold air.

if u want sound just remove the intake baffle, there are some how to'sin the tech lib, i made one, not that great but does help a bit, if u still want more drop a k&n replacement filter, that way u still use the CAI the truck has from factory, avoiding warmer air from the engine bay(with a cone filter) and still get some intake sound, and most important spent a bit less

thats the best way to go with out loosing performance for sound

I put the good K&N kit on mine I dont know if it was worth the money especially since it doesnt come with the heat shroud. When it was under a load it did get a nice rumble. Then i put a custom exhaust with a flowmaster so it rumbles all the time now.

Ok so with a little open heart surgery, took out the filter box and found what I think is the baffle(correct me if I'm wrong, the sponge and rubber gromet holding the filter box to the body). Also found you can just clamp the filter straight on to MAF unit without the filter box. Looked a bit sketchy, though as the weight of the MAF sensor unit and the mass air tube had put all the weight on the filter cone. So I put the filter box back on without the gromet and sponge padding and notice a tiny bit better performance and sound.

this is what i did

Yup that suckers gonna take in way too much heat, not even know it, then one day your motors gonna blow into a million pieces..Might even make a mushroom cloud!~ *gulp* Not, but maybe. Probably. Better to take air from the wheel well where it's grabbing some fresh air. fo sho

thats an old pic. i made a heat shield for it now and moved the overflow/washer fluid box down alittle allowing more air. if i put it in the wheel well it will just suck up mud and water
