Coil spacer question

Ive been reading all the threads on here about people using coil spacers up front and most are for trucks that are a 2000 or older.

Can someone lay it out simple for me:
Can I use 1" coil spacers to get 3" lift up front in my 2002 single cab 2wd?

Thanks :icon_thumby:

with just the spacer? cause that would only equal 1" of lift unless you are planning on doing more

IDK how that is even possible.....on any truck. I would expect 1"-1.5"

I think it has something to do with the springs being farther inward on the truck.

Think about it this way. Lay a pencil on your table and another on top to make an X. if you hold the eraser of the top one down to the table the lead end is maybe and inch or two off the table. if you slide the top pencils eraser closer to the shaft of the bottom one then lead end of the pencil raises higher.

I dont really know if thats why you would get more lift or not... but Its my theory.

I did think of that but its hard to beleive the springs are that much different a location then mine. I stacked an inch of washers and got about 1-1.5, but i havent looked at the 2x4's coil setup before.

Still dont see how a 1" spacer equals 3" of lift. I havent seen anywhere that says that other than the person in the other thread.

It baffles me too. Maybe ill stack some washers up and give it a shot and see what happens.

well for one. you don't usually ever want to go with more than 2" of lift because then it becomes increasingly harder to align. and 2" you wont get 3". the lift ratio is something like 1 : 1.5.... so you will at most see 1.5" of lift. so if you do 1.5" of washers it just a hair over 2" which is what most people do

has anyone seen someone do this to a 98+ ranger? I havnt done extensive looking or anything but it seems that everyone is doing it to their older rangers

now that you mention is i think you need a special type of spacer for the newer ones.

Yea you can't really use just washers. I got my spacers from Doetsch and I'm not excited that the only ones I could find were poly, but they're holding up well so far. But I gained about two inches of lift with them. My alignment is just a little off but isn't bad. My truck sits just about perfectly level, and if anything the front is higher. You'll need longer shocks too.

is it set up so no washers would work at all?

your generation of truck cant be lifted like the 1983-1997 trucks can be. your options are a lift spindle, the doetsch spacers listed above, or install a body lift and remove the rear axle block.
