Hey guys, I've got a 92' 2.3 Dual Spark and it was running like crap recently (backfiring, cutting off while driving). So I checked the codes, did some wrenching, and came up with a bad ICM (on order) and a cracked coil pack (it was cracked along the bottom). Anyway, I have two other coil packs from a newer dual spark 2.3 Ranger that I could use but the firing order numbering on the top of the coil is different than the coil I took off the truck. Should I hook up the wires in the same order as the old coil pack or go with the numbering on the top of the new one?

Idk much about the dual spark but ik that coil packs on other cars can be switched from cylinder to cylinder w/o problems

I think we're talking about two different coil pack designs, you're talking about the ones that go down into spark plug tubes and ignite a single spark plug (no wires) the one I'm talking about is four "prongs" that the wires plug in to.

go by the numbering on top.. that is how the replacement coil is designed.

if its wrong then attach them like the old one.. it won't damage anything.

Yea I was going to try doing this, it's good to hear that it won't damage anything. I'm still waiting on my new ICM to get here though.
