Hey all. I was having tons of issues with my 91 ranger and was trying to diagnose them, so a friend got me a code reader. I'm really hoping it will help, but I feel like an idiot because I can't figure out where to plug it in. Any insight?

I believe on that year it should be under the hood on the passenger side fender.

Under the hood you will see the diagnostic port near the fender and firewall on the driver side...

Haha, thanks guys! That's more than I knew before! Does it have a cover or is it just open?

There's supposed to be a cover, usually red, but it doesn't always stay with the vehicle over the years...

SVT

Alright, thanks. I'll have to look for that!

Remember there are OBD1 and OBD2 readers.

For a 1991 it would be type 1.

Most common ones are type 2 readers for newer vehicles.

Yea, I have the OBD 1. It was hard to find!

Hey guys!! I checked in those two spots, and I can't find anything. I'm confused.

Check the wiring harnesses real good, sometimes they get buried...

Should be here on the power distribution box or the rear left firewall.

obd 1

on my 93 ranger the plug was on the drivers side finder. by the relay box.:icon_confused:

'91; IIRC passenger fender close to firewall nearly under fan/blower housing.

As far as I know, this is exactly where it should be. The computer is mounted under the kick panel inside the cab near the passenger side floor, just forward of the door. The wiring runs through a big grommet in the firewall and the diagnostic connector should be shortly thereafter. Very close to the big fuse box and set of 3 relays mentioned in a previous post.
