hello iam new to this i have a 2003 ranger 4.0 engine v6 well it was working well i changed out the sparks and wires was running well for about 2 months it has 123000 miles so last week it was been driven and it started to sputter and misfire but the worst part that it had a very strong odor of fuel and then i could actually see some fuel drip through the exhaust not much but there was some present . i got codes po300 through po303 , po316 and p21991 so they told me to replace the coil pack i did but there is still a misfire and fuel drips so i put the code reader again no codes i waited a day and put the reader again it gave me code po232 and p1000 any help will be appreciated thank you. i just dont want to move this vehicle .

Found this over on crownvic.net. I know the Ranger doesn't have a seperate sytem like they do but I think it might be routed through your fuel pump circuit. This seems to relate to your issue as the fuel pump may be on when it should be off, hence the rough running (flooded) condition and the raw fuel coming from the tail pipe. The po1000 code is a general code the vehicle thows whenever there is a fault and cannot be cleared via code reader. It will have to clear by itself after all other error conditions are fixed/cleared. Hope this helps.

P0232 - Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit High NOTE: For natural gas applications, the following description applies to the fuel shutoff valve monitor (FSVM) and the fuel shutoff valve power (FSV PWR) circuits.
The PCM monitors the fuel pump monitor (FPM) circuit. This test fails when the PCM detects voltage on the FPM circuit while the fuel pump is commanded OFF. The FPM circuit is wired to a pull-up voltage inside the PCM. The FPM circuit will go high if, with the key ON and the fuel pump commanded OFF, the FPM/FP PWR circuit loses its path to ground through the fuel pump. The FPM circuit will also go high if the FPM/FP PWR circuit is shorted to power.
Inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch not reset or electrically open
Open circuit between the fuel pump and the FPM connection to the FP PWR circuit
Poor fuel pump ground
Fuel pump electrically open
Fuel pump secondary circuits short to power
Fuel pump relay contacts always closed
Open FPM circuit between PCM and connection to FP PWR circuit
Damaged low speed fuel pump relay or concern with related circuits (if equipped).
Damaged PCM
Continuous memory P0232 can be set if the IFS switch was tripped, then reset, or if the fuel pump circuit is activated when the PCM expected the circuit to be off (i.e. fuel system test or prime procedure).

1st thing I would do before digging to deep is check the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. If its bad it will flood the engine with to much fuel and set all sort of codes.
To check it simply remove the vacuum source line from it and see if its wet with gas. If it is then there's your gremlin.

Ignore the P1000. It just means a full drive cycle hasn't been completed since the last code clear. It will go away as you drive.

First step for the P0232 is to determine if it's an On demand code, or a memory code. If its a memory code, then you probably don't have an actual problem.

Continuous memory P0232 can be set if the IFS switch was tripped, then reset, or if the fuel pump circuit is activated when the PCM expected the circuit to be off (i.e. fuel system test or prime procedure

From the Ford manual.

The inertia switch at the r/h lower firewall are famous for getting hot/high resistance. unplug the switch and check for arcing/heat damage. you can replace it with a newer unit from an 05/06 for durability.

started to sputter and misfire but the worst part that it had a very strong odor of fuel and then i could actually see some fuel drip through the exhaust not much but there was some present .
Just wanted to make sure we were reading the same thing ?
