I got this b2 a year ago and have been fighting a fast idle/poor off idle performance.
In the beginning no codes were set but it always idled too high and bench testing the EGR valve revealed that it flowed both open and closed. Also using a beer can to block dropped the idle to normal. Simple enough, I got a 50$ valve (I think BGW US or MX origin) and everything seemed fine.
But the same symptoms return after a few month, too fast warm idle. In bench testing it seemed to me that when closed it would slightly still pass air. Blocking the port also didn't work as well as in the past. I had code 84 and one other lower number EGR related consistently.
Sigh, so I replaced the EGR valve 72$ (Carquest made in china) yesterday and just ran a few errands with an annoying fast idle and only code 84 appears.
I've done the obvious search for vacuum leaks and the base timing set with the shunt removed.
