I have a '94 ranger 4.0 5spd. The tranny was a little hard to put into 1st/reverse and sometime ground on the 1/2 shift a tad. I had just put a new trans and clutch and slave cyl. in so i think "air trapped in the master" Pull that off the firewall, flip it upside down, bleed. re-install and take her out. Perfect! just like it should be.
The next morning i came outside and left for work, what do you know, hard to stick it in first again.
My reservoir is full, what else? I haven't messed around too much with it yet. Maybe some crap in the slave cyl line connection letting it suck air? Bad master?

anyone have this problem?

thanks.

I had the same problem with my 91 4.0 5spd, took it back to my friend 2 times, they ended up putting a what he called a spacer ball between the pedal rod and the slave cyl. It has worked fine since then

Do you mean the pedal rod and the master cylinder?

The slave cylinder's inside the bellhousing of the tranny.

You could have an internal leak in your master cylinder. I've heard of flywheel shims when it gets resurfaced so many times it actually gets kind of thin so the throwout bearing won't release all the way. I've never heard of a spacer ball. What does it look like and where can one get one? Thanks

Allen

Brand new flywheel aswell, I guess I'll bleed it again and then I may try a "new" master from the junkyard, but TNT, if you know any more about that spacer....

Could also be a bad clutch master cylinder. Not uncommon. And if you buy a rebuilt unit, some of those aren't rebuilt properly and won't bleed or stay bled either. When it comes to hydraulic parts, I always spend the extra bucks and buy new. Cheaper in the long run.

anybody know how much those cost new? I'll still try to re-bleed it first (didnt have time today b/c of valentines day) and then go from there.

Mine was about $38.00 at Autozone about 6 months ago if I remember right. I bought a "good" used one first and ended up buying a new one when it didn't work, just like snake warned about.

You ever replace the throwout bearing? Sometimes when these go bad it makes shifting from 1 to reverse very difficult as well as other gear shifts grind.

yup, i figured while i had the tranny out may aswell get new everythingslave, throwout, flywheel....not to mention clutch/pressure plate

I am also having this problem with mt 94 .
I r eplaced the clutch , preasure plate, pilot bearing , slave w/ t.o. and the master cylinder .
no re-manufactured parts and I have removed the master from the fire wall countless times , even drove the truck up on ramps to make the front higher .
Can't seem to get all the air out .
