i put a 4.0 in with the fm146 i used the clutch and flywheel off my 2.8. the flywheel and clutch were brand new when i put them in so i was wondering is it to small for the 4.0? it dont slip all the time just if it gets warm like going 4x4 and such. could it be the clutch or maybe the slave cyclinder behind the bell houseing sticking or somthing? (thats brand new too)

I'm pretty sure the 4.0 uses a bigger clutch and flywheel then the 2.8 so that is probably why. It's always a good idea to use the correct parts for the application

The 4.0L uses a 10" clutch disk, the 2.8/2.9 uses an 8 7/8". I doubt the 4.0L would ruin it that fast unless you are abusing it.

It will not last as long as the 4.0L clutch will, but with moderation it should last a while.

Do you have any hydraulic leaks?

i have no leaks. and i dont abouse it, like i said like if im out 4x4 or anything like that it gets hot and will slip.. now i knew the 4.0 uses a bigger set up but i didnt know it was that much of a huge difference.. than again maybe the 33s with no gears will be like abouse..

A 10 inch disk has 310 square inches of surface area. An 8.875 inch disk has 247 square inches. Yes, it's significant. About 20% in maximum torque. More so for thermal capacity; the 4.0L flywheel is A LOT heavier than a 2.9L flywheel. Disproportionately so.

And that FM146 won't last too long either.

If your not running stock tires then you will toast it quickly.
