I am working on a 89 ranger 4x4 super cab with th 146 trans. I put a new clutch kit in it and now the the hose fiting on the end of the master will not go into the new slave. It looks like the new one is for the same style fitting but just a little shorter. The clutch that was ordered was supposed to fit 88-92. did they change these or is it just a bad part?

There are two types of quick connectors at the slave. The later ones are gold (yellow) colored on both line and slave connectors, while the early ones (before 1993 I think) are black colored and a little smaller in diameter.

As you pointed out there are other differences such as length, construction, and routing, that don't affect how they snap together.:icon_cheers:

They are both black, but the new slave (female part of the quisk dissconect) looks just a litlle shorter inside and the male end wont lock into it. I think i might try going to the salvage yard and looking for a new hose

There are little spring teeth on the inside of the slave side that grip onto the hose end when you push it in. Maybe they are damaged. The hose does not push in flush with the slave,; there is a gap left so the white plastic release ring sticks out to allow you to disconnect the parts next time. You do have the white plastic ring in place when you fit them together?

I only worked on the line once, so maybe someone else could chime in.:icon_idea:

AFAIK the only differences are 93+ and pre 93.

The 93+ are some variation of yellow, though my line end is more greenish yellow and the slave end is an orangey yellow.

The '90 slave I took out was black on the line end and blue on the slave end.
