So, middle of winter, slave decides to die ( joy ).

Truck is a 2010 with not an overly large amount of mileage on it. But its a ford with a standard so i expected it at one point or another ( i've owned 6 rangers, bronco 2, 5 f-150s, 2 crowns, etc. )

Big question is, i've heard rumours about the aftermarket ones not lasting well. I can get oem for 540 with new clutch and plate, or aftermarket with all that for 360 - no way i'm doing all this work laying on my back in the winter without changing the clutch regardless how much life is left.

Thanks TRS Members!

Check Rockauto, usually you can get Motorcraft parts from them for about what you can get aftermarket up town.

Check their thing in the venders section, I think they used to have a 5% discount for TRS members at one point.

checked rock auto, prices before duty for OE SACHS are more than aftermarket with shipping, i dont wanna see it with duty charges - i'm in Canada

Go OE on the slave. For the clutch itself, it doesn't really matter. I made the mistake of going aftermarket on a slave, it made it about 5 months until I got out of summer and into winter, then it sprung a leak. Since it was "lifetime" warranty, I swapped it out. Now I think it's leaking again....

Is the slave not covered under the standard 5 year / 60,000 mile powertrain warranty? Or are you over 60,000 miles already?

I have had success with the autozone parts, the slave has a lifetime warranty as does many of the clutch kits. Have replaced 2 clutches, no questions asked. Same for water pumps etc. I bought one high end highly recommended slaves and it went out at 30000! So yes the stores are sometimes worth the effort if you need to replace constantly. BTW 1 clutch kit replaced when the above slave went out and they told me to just put in a new kit while it was all apart!

The one Advance Auto sells does away with the problematic quick disconnect, I haven't had a problem with one yet. The dust boot(some don't have) and the clip, are perfect for me since my truck is mostly used in very muddy and dirty places, and my transmission usually has to come out at least annually for one reason or another.

Most of the Autozone ones have the new connector too.

But like I've said, I've had to warranty them because they didn't hold up.
