Got out of '88 Ranger and pant leg got caught on clutch peddle, pulling it up and disengaging the master cylinder. I can not get it to drive right. It will not shift properly now and with clutch depressed it goes forward or backward like an automatic. I don't think I am doing it right.

Sounds like you broke something that the clutch pedal attaches to, crawl under the dash and take a look, is it leaking fluid anywhere?

Tip>>>Wear tighter pants, if your pant leg is catching the clutch pedal your pants are way too damn loose LOL.

clutch problems revisited

Thanks Wildbill...yeah, I figured I broke something. pants were not that loose, slight boot cut. short legged lady here. have been all up under that dash. no fluid leaking just pulled out the bar that attaches to the peddle and the thing that goes into the master cylinder. am I not getting it in far enough? should I remove the electrical hard wear first? should I attempt to take off the rubber around the master cylinder? I don't know. frustrated all to get out right now. had an interview to go to.

I can't remember how that plunger goes into that cylinder but you may have to take it lose from the firewall its 2 bolts, then put it back together.

it may be in far enough, but you have allowed air in there. the moving forward and rear is the clutch not completely disengaging,
