The clutch pedal seem's to be sticking. I press it in but it feels softer than normal, usually i can press it a few times and it goes back to regular pressure feel.

But now its soft and i really have to press it hard to the floor in order to shift or else i wont change gears. The tranny seem's fine, as its got 150,000km's and haven't had any other troubles. It's definitely something to do with the clutch, i was just hoping someone could point me in the right direction before i hit the tools.

Clutch cable release? maybe the bearing or clutch itself? Its a 2001 edge manual 2wd ranger.

thanks
Mike

Is it a mechanical or a hydraulic clutch? If it is a hydraulic clutch, it sounds like it might have air in the system or just need to install a new clutch master cylinder on it! If their is air in the system try bleeding it out at the bleeder screw located on top drivers side of the transmission bell housing. If you raise your hood and it has a single hydraulic cylinder to the right of the brake master cylinder, you may be able to just replace it.

Thanks for the reply, its a hydraulic one. I took a look underneath by pulling the rubber plug out, and i could see fluid around the boot inside and a air leak sounds while someone depressed the clutch.

318 for clutch kit 140 for a sealed slave. 516$ after tax's, but dont have money to fix at the moment. I would hate to drop the tranny and just replace the slave and not do the clutch, but would be the cheaper option...

wow, i just got a NEW clutch kit for $90.. who is raping you? my slave was about $50 too

I just purchased a clutch kit for 285$ and slave for 110 it was 85 but he had to find another manufucturer. I went through vap, which was cheap than 6 dealerships(though i'd never buy one from them but they had the part in stock) lordco at 330/95, and t&t at 318/100 Clutch kit/slave.

vap was in port moody, where did you purchase yours from for that cheap...?

might not even need a clutch... if you're really strapped for cash just replace the slave for now.

I got the parts installed, and i spent literally 4hours bleeding it. I heard other had hard times bleeding it as well trying to get the air out. couple times it seem's to operate almost perfect, than a bubble would go through while bleeding than the clutch would go soft again and no more pressure.

I've read the other topics of people who have had trouble with the bleeding. My next step will be to replace the M/C. The slave was leaking, fluid all over so i replaced that and the clutch while i was in there. But that fellow Malhowski or whatever has changed his mc/slave/clutch and he still hasn't figured it out, so im really wondering whether this will really fix the problem.

M/C is next, unless i've missed something, but seem's theres really not to much else it could possibly be, and those parts are US$ :P shipping costs to canada would make it not as convenient unfortunately and vehicless.

Thanks
Mike

I bought a new Master cylinder and 2 litres of fluid getting ready for the worst. Nothing ever leaked from the master cylinder, only the slave did, so after hours of bleeding, i couldn't understand why the clutch was still not working.

So I took out the old master cylinder, resevoir, quick disconnect, and turned the master cylinder upside down with the cap on the resvoir and pumped it and it stiffened up rather quickly. Reinstalled the old one an the clutch activated like new. :)

All that work and worry for a 5minute job to take the master cylinder in and out. The only bad thing about taking it out is that you will more than likely bust the black fitting on the end of the push rod that holds onto the pedal.

thanks for your help guys.

mine was from NAPA so nowhere special order, they even had it in stock
