while changing the slave cylinder line in my ranger the push rod in the clutch cylinder came out. will this not allow me to bleed the clutch slave cylinder properly? been trying for 2 days

it shouldnt as long as it goes back in without falling right back out, AND as long as it didnt mess up the seal on the inside of the cylinder, as long as you have the seal in and the rod attached so that it will retract with the seal after being pushed in you should be fine

how can i tell if the seal is broke? the rod came out clip and all

if the seal is broke it will most likely leak fluid and it will be a lot easier to push in than normal, it sounds like u may need a new master if the rod came out, when u put the rod in does it funtion like a normal clutch? im pretty sure it wont and u will probably need a new master

I actually pulled my clutch apart in a similar fashion when the floorboards rotted and I tried to pry the clutch back with the toe of my boot...I just put the rod back in place and it worked fine for another 10,000 km or so before I replaced the cab...

I wouldn't worry about it unless you can see fluid leaking...the rod actually presses into another piece of steel or hard plastic that caps the cylinder...

Having said that, though, replacing the master is not a big job...as long as your firewall is solid...
