I recently put a clutch in the Ranger (1986 2.9 4x4), or I should say had a local shop put it in. I picked it up and within the 5 mile drive home, it started slipping really bad. It was at a point that I could put it in gear and let off of the clutch and it was as if it was in neutral. While the trans was out, the slave and master was replaced with used (yeah I know, but they where factory Ford parts that I can't afford to purchase right now) ones. After the truck sat for a few days, the clutch worked again. I drove it a couple of miles and it began slipping again, just as before, to the point of seeming like it was in neutral when it was in fact in first gear and the clutch pedal was released.
My question is, is there a check valve in the system that could be sticking so as to keep the pressure plate released and then slowly bleeds the pressure back off as it sits for a few days? If so, where would this be, in the master or in the slave?
You guys seem to know what's going on and I'm confused. I think it's a good theory but I'm not familiar enough with this system to know for sure.
