clutch line removeable

well im trying to fix a blown clutch line on my 1990 ranger 2.9 5spd i bought the new line and it came with the release tool but i cant get it to let go what should i do? i need help right away

Just went through the same problem here. Try REALLY HARD to get that release tool to work. Also, try spinning the plastic sleeve a bit and then trying the release tool again. There are spring "fingers" inside the female connector that all need to be pressed in, and if they all aren't pressed in, then the connector doesn't release. Just try not to destroy the female connector that goes into the transmission or else you'll end up removing the transmission to replace the slave cylinder. I just had to do that with my truck, for that very reason. The female fitting is an integral part of the slave cylinder, so it's not just a matter of replacing the fitting.
Which part of the line is blown, one of the hose ends or the hose itself? Might be possible to splice the line which would save a lot of hassle. Or, just spend the money on a new slave cylinder, drop the tranny, and replace the old slave cylinder with the new one that has the improved female connector which eliminated the release problem. Here in my area, the slave cylinder was $50, (also replaced the rear main seal in the engine while the tranny was off, and the input shaft seal of the tranny itself). The new style female connector has a much better release system, so that if/when the little rubber O-ring of the clutch line male fitting needs replacing, it's a 5 minute job to fix.

Just had another thought. If your truck has had the original slave cylinder replaced with a different one that has the improved design, then the release tool won't work. To remove the line, there is a clip on the female fitting that just pops off using a small screwdriver, and the hose is released.

right now i have the trans and motor out and apart putting 4.0 in should i replace slave while it out?

After what I went through with mine, I'd replace the slave to avoid problems in the future with releasing the line, especially considering that a leak can develop in the line fitting when the o-ring wears out. The slave is simple enough to remove, just two bolts hold it on. It comes down to the extra cost I guess. The improved fitting on the new slave cylinder ( at least with the "Perfection" brand) makes life a whole lot easier.

as you're doing the engine swap, why not just get a manual transfer case and be done with slaves altogether. just a thought.

the clutch slave cylinder has nothing to do with the transfer case.

Clutch slave cylinder is part of the MANUAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM, has absolutely nothing to do with your t-case.
