clutch help

So I am in need of any tips or tricks when it comes to dropping my trans to replace my clutch and slave cylinder. i have a dropped trannys before but just wanted to see if any of yall had some tricks that would make this project go smoothly.
BTW its a 2002 ranger v6 4.0 4x4
 
If you can find a self help auto shop, that would,be perfect. I dropped my transmission for the first time at one of those and I didn't really have to worry about all the tools and jacks because they had them. If not then you will a transmission Jack or a regular Jack and steady hands. I had to drop my transmission two days ago because my flywheel ring gear went bad. I did this at home with my wife and having another set of hands made is so much easier. When dropping it and lifting it back I did it with a car back and since my ranger is lifted I had getup under it and use my hand to hold it steady and twist and turn to get spline in and then used my legs for support. I left the front driveshaft on the transfer case to keep myself from having to keep track of too many bolts, but take the bearing off of that front drive shaft as soon as you can and keep them safely somewhere else. The first time I dropped the trans my front drive shaft bearings. Fell to the floor and I lost some of those little cylinders and two days ago they got the dirt and now I need to get some new bearings for it. I don't know what all tools and supplies you have but as long as you don't get fustrated it should go smooth. I don't really know any tips and tricks as I have only had to drop it four times 3 of high were because I forgot to pull the clutch pedal away from the clutch master cylinder to properly bleed it, where as I was just bleeding the slave cylinder. So I dropped it thinking it was a clutch problem. I do suggest having at least two people to speed up taking off all the bolts, and I do believe for the 92 models and up there is and extra transmission bolt or two that are a pain in the butt to get to
 
Inspect your flywheel too, just to check and see it doesn't need resurfacing
 
I really recommend that you go to Harbor Freight and get an transmission jack. That trans and transfer assembly is big and you need to keep total control of it. Sell it on CL after you are done if you want.

And I think you will find the Y-pipe is going to be a beast. I would use heat and a freezing solution on the bolts. And follow that with PB blaster of some such. Breaking the nuts and replacing them is best if you can do it. Drilling the exhaust manifold/s for bolts and nuts would not be fun.

And, a manual of some sort. There are bolts in unexpected places on the 02 4.0L.
 
I've found that if I break a bolt, its quicker and easier to skip trying to use an easy out. Go directly to drill and tap with heli-coil or similar.

thanks for all the reply's. i am doing this at a shop and i have access to plenty of tools including a transmission jack. as for the exhaust bolts on the Y pipe, i have already snapped those bolts when i previously went to do the job. so my only option now is to drill them out.
 
Pull the engine and replace the rear timing chain cassette?
