Well I guess my clutch is going out. While helping a friend move, and it didn't even want to get the front wheels over the curb(i was backing a trailer into her garage)with the clutch pedal all the way out. It was actually slipping pretty good just to get into the driveway. I went to the dealership and they want $1500. Fair price or not? If the brakes are dragging badly, there is some sort of electical problem where the ignition(i'm guessing) cuts out for a second then comes back(no one knows what it is and I'm not factory trained, no idea what it is) AND the clutch is going, is it worth it to dump all the money into it? The "ignition" problem isn't throwing a light or any codes, the clutch is pretty much gone now and the brakes have been dragging for over a year

1500 is crazy. but thats normal for a stealership. you can find cheaper places to get it done by alot.

anychance you would be capable of doing it yourself? if so then it would definatley be worth it to fix the problems. if not, your getting to the borderline of what some people would/wouldnt spend to fix it.

work experience

I've never done a clutch on anything before. what all does it involve? i've done brakes so i can take care of that one and i suppose i'll just ignore that last problem until it does something like cause a light or i have money

Disconnect the battery, remove the starter, disconnect the driveshafts, remove the transfer case, unbolt the stick from the top of the trans, remove wiring connectors and clutch line, remove bellhousing bolts and tranny x-member, pull out trans, unbolt pressure plate from flywheel, replace: pressure plate, disc, throw-out bearing, slave cylinder, pilot bearing. Re-assemble.

With the right tools it can be done over a weekend if it's you're first time. Definitely purchase a shop manual too.

It may seem impossible, but when I first got my truck I did it with little automotive experience, a shop manual and basic ratchet, and sockets in a weekend. I did have help putting it all back together, the next day, that's only because the trans is a %$#@* to put back in by yourself. You will need the special dissconnect tool. It's like $5 from any auto store. Don't forget to replace the slave cylinder while you're in there.

holy... didn't know it was that involved, but then again, i suppose its in the heart of the beast. so what is the "disconnect tool" and i assume that id need a jack or something to move the tranny while it's removed

two or three people work well removing the tranny, but a tranny jack can substitute. Even buying all the tools and parts new, will cost you half of what that stealership wants. :icon_thumby: Plus you'll have the new experience and the satisfaction you did it.
