So I just bought ranger today, 95 5 speed 2wd with the 2.3 motor. It drove fine the hour long trip home, it drove fine while I was cruising around town just enjoying it...and then about 100 miles into my ownership it starts to feel like the clutch just isn't engaging all the way. (I can hear the motor rev but the truck isn't moving) and it does that in every gear. I have to just rev the mtoor and let it sit and SLOOOOOOOOOWLY accelerate to get up to speed. The clutch used to have a fair bit of resistance but now it goes to the floor with about as much effort as the brakes and then gets ROCK hard for the last little bit. (It won't start unless I push the clutch past this point, and it didn't need to be pushed that far before) Talked to my buddy's dad and he said it might be a bad slave cylinder...what do you guys think is wrong with it? Hopefully something less expensive?

usually hydraulic problems mean you cant release the clutch, not vica-versa.

the fact that the position the pedal has to be in in order for the starter to engage has moved makes me think maybe there is a physical problem down by your feet with the clutch interlock switch or the clutch pedal/pushrod itself. id crawl under the dash with a good light and see if anything is askew.

So I told myself I'll at least try bleeding the lines before I take it into the shop....and that fixed it. After about 50 miles it started to do the same thing (Though not as bad) so I bled it again, and it's been good so far. Hopefully I just didn't get all the air out the first time and this isn't going to become a regular thing and there's just air in the lines from the cold weather.
