Cluster swap issues

Hello,

I recently swapped a 96 cluster out of a 4.0 with a tach into my 97 2.3 w/o a tach. Since this install I have had a few issues and I could really use some help.

1. Temp gauge never goes to normal range. The gauge moves but never makes it to normal. To try and at least make it move to normal, I removed the needle and moved it to sit just below normal so that when it does move it will go into the normal range. Why does this gauge not go into normal with out the needle being moved?

2. Check engine light location was moved in 97, so the 96 cluster has a fuel cap light where the check engine light is on a 97 cluster. When the truck self tests the cluster it illuminates the fuel cap light. Doing some research I found that in 97 the check engine light was moved to the left side and a check suspension light was put in it's place, while the fuel cap light was deleted. I have tried to re-pin with no success. (maybe could use a 96 and 97 cluster pin out diagram)

3. I took the odometer apart to correct the mileage. odometer works when it is in the truck with out the speedo overlay but when I bolt it to the overlay it stops working after a few miles. (may have corrected this by making the bolts hand tight)

4. I didn't calibrate the speedo when I disassembled it. Is there a way to do this or must I use my chronograph and the interstate mile markers to find 60 mph?

Other than that little laundry list, all the other gauges seem to be accurate.

Should have known that if it is plug and play for other people than it will NOT be for me!:annoyed:

Any help would be much appreciated as I am ready to pull my hair out and scream!
