have a 89 ext ca b 4x4 elect transfer case and less than a year ago replaced the motor. well i got under it taped the motor with a dead blow and kick on, but now have new problem. every couple rotations theres a clunk/click. ive have solid axles with bad front u joints and it made the noise all the time. and with this its only in 4x4. would that be bad front drive shaft u joints or could it be auto hubs? need help quick bc if its u joints im going to go buy them asap. please help thanks will

The only way you can determine that is to get it up in the air and start inspecting. Depending on how old the u-joints are since they are inexpensive I would just change them anyhow. Nothing like getting let down on the trail. If yo have auto hubs get the manual ones and do away with another unnecessary evil.

right i got to get a half way decent day maybe when its above 30 and do the u-joints there proly original it was a one owner truck when i got it had the window sticker and original title, older man tho. im also geting a set of hubs too. dnt have to use the 4 wheel often but when i need it i dnt want problems.

My 89 parts truck clunks when the front shafts spin, either from locked hubs or t-case. I replaced all the u-joints, which were obviously bad, and the problem persists. I now believe that it also has broken gears inside the front pig.

Thankfully I do not need to drive this, not to mention it also gets less than 10mpg thanks to the previous owner mutilating the wiring system. Unfortunately most of the drive-train parts turned out to be a smaller diameter than my 91, so the main stuff I can salvage from the 89 are motor parts.
