i am lost i am losing faith in the duratech 2.3 i am now getting rdy to buy my third engine my truck only has 115k on it. the first engine made it to 95k and spun a rod bearing oil was fresh then. and this time driving down the road it started ticking and a mile later it was making so much noise i had to pull over. the oil pressure was fine as well as the oil level i am stumped i am thinking about selling the truck after i get the new engine put back in it!

sorry to hear about that, mine hasn't taken a sh*t so I havent lost faith

I used to drive a Duratec Ranger at work. It now has over 230k miles of really hard use and poor maintenance and it still runs like brand new. :dunno:

You must be very unlucky. Other than some isolated quirky things these 2.3s are a smash hit.
Something tells me that you must be continuously riding on the rev limiter.

Are you sure it is the engine. Did you check other things

i hardly ever hit the rev limiter if i get on it i shift at 5500 no higher. and i pulled the valve cover tonight nothing there outta the norm. i checked all the plugs and all but the 4th was clean that one had junk all over it. And the oil has specs in it. me and my dad are thinking that a wrist pin failed but i wont know till i tear it down next weekend.

short trips? never allowing the engine to warm up? thats all i can think of?

i usually let it warm up and i never have short trips i drive 38 miles one way to work.
