So I got a 83' ranger with a 4.0 swap in not to long ago. The question that I have is this. How do I tell what tranny is the truck has? The clutch is starting to go out and I would like to change it but not really sure which clutch to get.

I bet you should have posted this down a little further in the transmission section. Reguardless this should help you out.
