Closing in my carport

in my 4 years of doing electrical work i have NEVER seen a vapor barrier behind the sheetrock....i have always seen it on top of the sheeting underneath the siding, thats also how we did it when i worked for a contractor...besides what is the difference between a vapor barrier and a breathable house wrap?

vapor barrier doesn't "breathe", a vapor barrier is meant to defend against water vapor and condensation. A house wrap is meant to protect the frame from rain water, ect. that gets past whatever your facade. So it goes on the outside behind your facade, and the vapor barrier typically goes between your sheetrock and insulation. :icon_thumby:

methinks this came at the request of the wifey

We are doing this because we have 3 kids and 3 bedrooms. There's a detached garage in back so likely I will extend the roofline of it, pour a slab and make a carport on the front of it.
The garage is for my toys.:headbang::3gears:

OK, me and the wife want to close in the two car carport and make a master suite. It is already closed in on 3 sides so this should be easy right? I'm pretty handy, but have never built an exterior wall nor do I know how to go about doing this so we don't have water problems. How do I build this wall? The opening is all that I have to worry about, it's around 20 feet wide. Do I need to put down concrete blocks or just frame that sucker and go? The house has stone on the outside and there's no way we can match it, so we are open to any suggestions about that. We want a bay window too. The inside will be a piece of cake, I just don't want any water issues. I'll pay somebody to do the electrical, I want somebody to sue if my house burns down.

I read this sometime ago. My wife and I have so many homes near us that are doing this!!! It seems to us that a lot of families have other family moving in with them now!! Either a room addition has bee added or the garage has been closed up and a door had been added and extra windows. A sign of what is to come to our country?? So far we have seen great workmanship and the add-ons looks like they were built at the same time the home was. I think this is what is more important. To make that addition look like it was never added on. Great job, Bro!!!
