when i turn the dial so the fan circulates air through the footwell and dash vents, the a/c turns on. all the other functions work as theyre supposed to. is the switch bad? any help will be greatly appreciated

also, the OE # off the switch is f8sh-19d961-aa but the only thing i could find on motorcrafts website is part #YH1557 with a different OE #. could it be the same part just different OE #?

the a/c is supposed to come on in these settings. the truck uses the a/c system as an air drier to help defrost the windows more effectively.

but i thought just the fan was supposed to come on? i dont have it on the defrost setting

No, the honest-to-god A/C is supposed to come on.

If you cool the air and then heat it, you condense much of the moisture in the cooling stage. It's VERY effective.

well i wasnt sure, ive never had a car/truck with ac. so does that mean when i want heat it will only come out of the footwell vents?

I really wish Ford made the A/C on thing optional. There have been many times I've wanted the fan on without the A/C. Humidity isn't a problem here most of the time, so that "feature" really doesn't do me much good.

so its just a Ford thing? also, in the winter when i dont want the ac to switch on when i turn the knob in that position, would it hurt anything if i just pull the connector thats on the compressor? that way i can get heat through both the dash and footwell vents.

Huh?

It's only on in Max A/C and Defrost. Max A/C uses recirculating air, so the fan alone isn't very useful. You can use "Panel" for that. If you want to use the defogger with no A/C, you're not understanding how the defogger works.

As for no humidity, do you move out of the state in winter? There is A LOT of humidity in Sacramento from around November to May.

You COULD, but if you do, you're emasculating the defogger.

You can use the "PANEL" setting to get heat alone out the dash. Even without it, if your heater can't overpower the air conditioner, you're engine is broken.

i must admit, i thought that MAKG didnt understand what i was talking about. turns out the local ford dealership confirmed what he was stating. their tech department was realy nice. they looked up some info and printed it all out for me. thanks for all the responses.
