Welcome! The first thing I would do is make sure that this noise you're hearing isn't 'pinging'. Try giving just a little more gas when you let the clutch out and see if the noise stops. Another way to test for pinging is to drive up a gentle hill in 5th or at about 25 - 30 mph in 4th for a few seconds and see if you hear the same noise. If the noise you're hearing is not ping, then I'd check a few other things. First of all, when did you first notice this noise? Has it gotten progressively worse, or did it just start happening suddenly? Does this noise only happen when you first let the clutch back in, or does it happen constantly in 1st gear? Also, where does it sound like it's comming from? If it sounds closer to the front end, I'd say your rear axle is probably fine - in fact, I don't see any reason that something like this would have anything to do with your axle. I'd be willing to bet that if something is getting ready to go, this 'clicking' noise will get progressively worse. Also, does the clicking go away when you get up to a steady speed? I would also try letting someone else drive her for a bit while you put your ear to the tranny hump and see if the clicking sounds louder there. Anyway, I hope this helps. I'm no expert, so hopefully a couple more folks can chime in - keep us posted and hopefully we can figure out your noise.
