cleanup without reformat/reinstall?

eBay is all about doing your homework. Buy from a seller with a solid reputation and a guarantee that it will work. I've been doing it for years. You're purchasing memory for an older system. Why spend $60-80 when you could spend $20 for the same thing and put that money towards something else?

well that particular seller has nearly 200 trouble free transactions on record, with a 100% rating, but they don't offer any sort of guarantee on the parts. i cant believe it's that expensive though, i bought 2 gb ram for my mother's desktop brand new from newegg and it was just over $20. it must be a difference in the type of memory each system uses or something i guess...

Hang on - I linked you to the wrong type of memory. You don't want ECC.

Edit: I'm not finding what you need for less than about $50 even on eBay. Might as well grab this at NewEgg.

that one's ddr400, which according to my spec sheet is incompatible (unless it's backward compliant?) either way, i dont have the budget for something like that right now. i've spent too much on my car and my truck both, now i'm gonna be broke for a while.

I believe it's backwards compatible. Somebody else can confirm that.

I'll look around the office tomorrow. Might have something floating around.

my nice clean system runs just
fine with 256 meg. more ram
just encourages sloppy habits.

I buy all my computer parts from new egg..

Have you dumped or deleted your prefetch folder?

I dump my cookies cache history temp files and such once a week.

Im running windows XP pro sp2 with only 1 gig of ram with no problems.

the spec sheet link wouldn't work for some reason, but it seems to be looking at the 845GEM MoBo...since you've gotten plenty of advice the only thing I would say is updating the RAM would improve performance of the system considerably...

I was running Win2K with 256 Mb of Ram and it was a dog with an 1800 Ghz processor...when I dumped in another 500 Mb of RAM it improved quite a bit...but I had to buy the older style SDRAM and that stuff is getting very expensive...

Yep. Even 1GB would probably be plenty for you and make a very noticeable improvement. I checked around the office and can't find any DDR modules. Found a few old 168 pin modules ranging from 32 to 128, but that's it for the older stuff.

Look at this for $25 on eBay or this for $39 at NewEgg. Either will help you out a lot.

when was the last time you ran a defrag or error checking tool ??? also disk cleanup will speed things up.

Cant believe that u still use that version of windows...Dude upgrade it to Vista or atleast xp
