Cleaning burned on oil off carb

Got a carb with some baked on oil from a leaky 302 my friend has (no clue how it got into the carb) but its inside it and im worried about it catching fire, anybody know something i can soak it in? Right now its soaking in gas, I've tried diesel but it didnt work, maybe a mix of purple power and something

"carburetor cleaner"?

Just a thought. Maybe oil vapors from PCV valve in air stream caused the buildup. I'm just guessing.

just get a rebuild kit for carb and this https://www.berrymanproducts.com/pr...rryman-chem-dip-carburetor-and-parts-cleaner/

to soak carb in.. it will look brand new and work like new once rebuilt and adjusted..

I have not, i didn't think it would remove the oil, but i will give it a shot

The base of my MC5200 was caked in EGR crud and never caught fire...but a good idea to keep them clean when possible...it does take quite a bit of buildup to impair the flow inside but once that is done...you will know it.

I agree with the rebuild idea...not that hard and there are many youtube videos on how to do it...read, watch and learn before taking it apart...there are some small parts that are easy to loose and that would put you in a worse position if you don't keep them and put them back the way they were...

I started taking pics of stuff like that in case I forgot something...so make your won video is a good idea...so you can retrace steps..

I like the little basket...not that I could get my carb in that can...but dunking smaller parts is a good way to clean them without making another mess...

Tired engines dump oil in the air filter housing via the PVC system (the hose that goes on the oil cap connects to the air filter)

Scrape off what you can first, it will clean faster soaking and won't foul your carb cleaner as fast.

Seen a former neighbor done it, they works magically with fine result.
