Cleaning a plastic intake manifold???

So I am basically rebuilding/replacing most things on my truck. Putting in a remanufactured 4.0L engine from Promar, got my M50D tranny rebuilt, I'm rebuilding my T-case. Anyway, I took off the plastic intake manifold and found that it had lots of oil in the bottom, and tons of carbon and sticky goo built up in it. I am wondering, since it is plastic, what is the best way to clean it? I want to ensure that it is thoroughly cleaned before putting it on my new engine. Thanks for any suggestions!

A solvent tank would be the best way. Just turn it over and let the stuff run through it for a day.

If you can't swing that, a large tub of water and simple green. Submerge it and let it soak for a day.

I could get it dipped at a machine shop in town, but wouldn't solvent ruin or degrade the plastic?? I almost think the simple green method would be better for the plastic.

The "solvent" used in the tank I am referring to is just mineral spirits. It's perfectly safe for plastic. We clean out valve covers, oil pans, intakes, degas bottles, transmission parts, pretty much everything in it.

I shall try spraying the turpentine into the intake and letting it sit for a while, hopefully this works.

On plastics I always use soft bristle brushes and "electronic parts cleaner" it's safe for plastics.... or better yet Dawn dishwashing soap and a brush. You could use Kerosene as well.

no need to "soak" overnight in a cleaner tank!!! A couple of hours of scrubbing will give you a good workout and get the job done.

Put it in the dishwasher... Might want to check with the lady first though haha! I've actually got an old dishwasher in my workshop, ready to be hooked up and used for parts washing.
