RumbleGoat Racing here.
We race in the 7300 class in the Best in the Desert Series. We bought our truck mostly done, but did a lot of the work ourselves. Buying a truck in the current market will save you a ton of cash. Bes = t in the Desert and SCORE use a different numbering system. I'll break it down for the classes that have Rangers:
7300 = Stock Mini = Stock control arms, no frame reinforcement, OPEN shocks (we have lots of big ones), no fiberglass. . .as stock as you can get.
7100 = 7s/7SX = Modified stock components. Boxed arms, reinforced frames, fiberglass fenders, but about the same travel as 7300.
7200 (score class 6) = unlimited except for track width and has to be a six cylinder motor and look like a truck. Mini-trophy trucks.
Score class 7: Open mini-truck. Has to have factory frame and 76" or narrower track width, but open other than that. This class is going to die because the costs are the same as the 7200/Class 6, but they are not going to be as fast long term.
Sportsman Prerunner AKA 1450/1400/1800 and some other number: OPEN. Must meet safety requirements only. Some promoters required steel doors that work, but BITD and SCORE do not. NO PAYBACK. But this is where you see V8 Rangers.
Wanna go racing? Check us out at
www.rumblegoatracing.com. We are prepping the truck for the Henderson's Fabtech Desert Classic the first week in December in Henderson, Nevada. It is a 200+ mile Grand Prix race. I'm starting in the driver's seat. Our pits are always open to Ranger peeples.

For those out of the loop, BITD does the Vegas to Reno and SCORE is famous for the Baja 1000. Both series have 5 races per year and are considered to be the PRO series in the USA. Other series out there are SNORE, BORE, VORRA, MDR, MORE and now DRIVE Racing. Of course, I'm only referring to long format desert races because that is one of the last true adventures left in racing aside from the iditarod and the Dakar rally.
