Ok Ford Natives and old wise ones I have multible issues in question here. I have a Mitsubishi 5 spd Manual and was informed by the Ford dealer that this is a rare breed in Ranger possibly 87 being the only year. Before the Mazda 5spd was introduced so they told me. I can tell you that the transmission fluid is synthetic and cost 30 dollars a quart x 4. I was pleased to be informed of this and proceeded immediately to purchase all four quarts as none can be found in this entire state of Hawaii at any retail parts rip off house. They really stick it to you here for the very simple things. Auto Zone and other mainland parts houses would absolutely make billions of dollars if they would come here and sell us some lifetime brake pads and cheap rotors. Ok back to the point. Is this tranny any good? My Ranger has 116,000 miles on her. She hasnt been rode too hard, but she hasnt always had the best things in life either. Her little motor requires far more babying than that of her adversaries of the Bow Tie of that generation. That being the Iron Duke 151 cu. in Pontiac 2.5 4 cylinder engine of the shhhhhhh S10 pickup. I had my 88 up to 110 miles per hour when I was in high school. I put over 300,000 miles and four clutches before the grim crusher came a knocking at the door. I wish I could sneak one inside my Ranger sometimes, but Im just dreaming crazy of course. I would never tell her that because she would pout you know. She is far more beautiful and has better lines and of course her front suspension has a long history of finely bred and pastured anscestors of our farming communities all over the country. She likes to hunt Toyotas but we havent gotten to field dress one out yet together. Theres plenty of them here so no restrictions on hunting them and I keep promising that one day we are going to get a trophy Tacoma to hang on the wall.
