new to the forum...(check out the intro thread) Thanks for having me!

I already have a 69' 351w Block with a crank, and that's it.

I just recently found out my buddy is selling a 5.0 efi (complete) motor for $400. If it was your choice...what would you go with. I'm curious to see what the answers will be.

Thanks guys

Most people go with a 302 because it's much easier to work with and doesn't have as many clearance issues as the 351. There's also a lot more on the market for the 302 swap into a Ranger from companies like Advance Adapters who have kits available with things like new motor mounts.

The only difference is the width and height of the two motors. Everything else is the same, same mounts, same bellhousing, same heads same overall length. The choice is yours to make. We can't make it for you.

go with the 5.0
it will put out more power than the carbed 351 and be a lot lighter.

if you plan on changing the 351 to efi, I'd say go with that.
no replacement for displacement :icon_thumby:

You said the 351 is block and crank only. If the 5.0 is in any good kind of shape I'd sure go with that. Save that 351 block for the time you feel the need for more power. The 5.0 can give you enough power it get you in trouble anyway.

yeah, I kinda figured the 5.0 would be the popular choice. All I know is the price at the moment. Not sure if that comes with the Computer and all of the Emission bs or what.

Would the computer have to be reprogramed if I didn't want A/C? This would be my first EFI drop in, so I have no idea. I have no need for A/C if it's a project like what I'm wanting to do.

a 351 is only 40 pounds heavyer. any wayz i would im going with a 302 efi, you can find every thing under sun sun for the swap and you wont have to clearance as much to get it in. but thats me, it all comes down to what YOU want to do. good luck

The only thing I am worried about it all the damn wires involved with the EFI switch.

I've never done anything of this sort (but I'm sure I could figure it out with manuals, ect)...but man. That's alot of wires to be messing with.

I'm assuming it's not just a drop the motor in and plug everything back in. But is there alot of splicing and buying new plugs and all that?
