Ive got a 2001 ranger edge with a 4.0 thats a daily driver and a 99 with a 4.0 im in the process of doing a sas on. I saw an ad at the top of the screen of trs about a chip that says up to 50 hp and up to 6mpg. For my 01 i would like better gas mileage and for the 99 i would like more power. my 01 has a 3inch body lift with 32 pro comps and im getting 19-20 all the time but if i could get 22-24 that would be friggin sweet. They are both 5-speed manuals. So my question is, has anybody used these chips and if they have does it really help. Other question is what about the chips they sell on ebay for 99 cents and up to 17.99, do they actually work?

No. Most are just 10K resistors (literally, and they cost about 10¢ at a small electronics shop). Some are potentiometers in a box. The ones I've seen adjust what the intake air charge temperature is telling the computer. Some have reported loss in power and fuel economy using them. For something that cheap with those results, it has BS written all over it :).

Thats what i figured about the ebay ones. The one tho that they advertised for on trs is by SLR Motorsports. I know that you can get chips for diesels that produce wicked awesome gains but havent heard any responses on how chips work on gas powered vehicles. Jet claims to have chips for gas engines that are specific to engine size, year, etc., but this SLR Motorsports only offers a wide arrange of years that are suppose to work on all in that range. I have heard that bama chips for rangers work but like jet they're really expensive and they make them for your specs. When i say expensive i mean 2-3 hundred dollar range.

DONT mess with the ebay chips. Like said above, their just resistors. Jet and hypertech are decent chips, but alot of people claim they dont help. I would recommend looking into a programmer from sct. Doug at bamachips.com uses this programmer and is the man when it comes to tuning rbvs. The programmer comes with 3 different tunes (87 performance/torque, 89 performance/torque, 93 performance/torque). You can even make adjustments (tire size, gear ratio). Everyone who has one claims that theyre the best out there. I personally have a Jet chip and it helped some, but I plan on upgrading to the programmer soon...
