well im going to order a preformance chip next payday. just wondering if anyone has chipped their 4.0 sohc. anyone got any good preferances? id like to increase the preformance of the truck. i can spend 300 too 500 bucks. any ideas?

If you plan on using it at high revs and high speed a chip might be of some use. However normal driving with a 4X4 ranger will show little effects from chipping...cept maybe less fuel milage.
Getchur girlfriend something nice with the money.

Im going to have to agree with Big Jim on this one. Its not a diesel so a chip isnt going to gain you that much for the money.

i just want to kick the governer out really. any way to do that without a chip?

My SOHC is not chipped but it has the equivalent by reprogramming. If you get the right program you can get an improvement in performance and a little improvement in gas mileage. It is nice to move up the cut off speed also.

I ran some performance test before and after for comparison and can assure you there is a increase in performance. I use a BAMA program and am very happy with it. I have three programs besides the stock program but use primarily the 87 octane performance program.

I find the driveability is improved also with the BAMA program. When I switch it back to the stock program for smog testing, I very much don't like the way it drives and am so happy to get it back on the BAMA program.
